Reuters/Google Sectors and Industries Chrome Application

Challenge

As a key delivery partner for Reuters’ digital estate, we were co-opted to work with Google to play our part in the launch of Google’s Chrome App store. Working in partnership with Google and Thomson Reuters our challenge was to produce an application to allow users to view company equities and financial information broken down by industry group and sector within a fixed budget and to an aggressive deadline.

Approach

Working collaboratively with the Reuters’ own market specialists and in-house design teams we set out to deliver the user community, in this case city traders, analysts and commentators, an easy to use but powerful tool for researching companies / sectors / and industries. Further functionality was to include the ability to build company watch-lists, compare company performance and view company news, charts and stock prices. We built the application as a native Google Chrome app using a combination of HTML5 and Javascript with a server side database containing the financial information.

Results

Entering the top 5 apps for its initial launch period, within a few weeks the App had been downloaded nearly 30k times and continues to be very much in use by international financial centres and their elite communities.

Summary

Coreware’s unique skill-set enabled Reuters to deliver this project to Google on time and to budget without drawing heavily on their internal teams and thus benefited from our ability to efficiently deliver complicated projects on a very tight timescale. We continue to run the service on an ongoing basis using our own robust managed hosting platform supported 24/7 by our in-house specialist helpdesk teams.
